Produced in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the International Scout was a prominent player in the world of off-road vehicles for 2 decades. Beginning life in 1961, the Scout was built as a direct competitor to the iconic Jeep CJ. While the original Scout 80 sold strong during its 5-year run, the CJ’s were still leading the pack. In 1965, the second version of the Scout was introduced, the 800. The Scout 800 upped the game for the 4X4 scene, as the Ford Bronco and Chevrolet K5 Blazer were unveiled as competition over the next few years. By 1971, the final iteration of International’s 4x4 was released, the Scout II. Produced for 9 years, the Scout II became the most popular, longest running, and best-selling 4x4 created by International with over 270,000 leaving the doors in Ft Wayne. With the choice of 6 different engines, multiple transmissions, and a wide array of trim packages, the Scout was a very customizable, unique, and desirable option for off-roaders.
This particular 1973 Scout II was finished in Gold Indescent over Gold and was fitted with the 304 V8, 4-Speed manual, and factory A/C. Sold new at Marshall Motors in Bend, Oregon, this Scout is an unrestored time capsule with a story to tell! For the majority of its life, the first owner and his family used the Scout for hunting and a variety of wilderness activities. Everything from a front tow bar, gun-racks, welded-on roof tie-downs, compass, and many other touches were added to this multi-purpose off roader. With multiple decades of use, the Scout and its modifications were left in tact, making the character and patina one of a kind. The Scout remained in the original family until 2020, when the current Indiana based collector purchased the Scout.
