Introduced on April 17th, 1964, Ford's all new "Pony Car" changed the American performance car game forever. A powerful V8, variety of options, short wheel-base 2-door, and reasonably pricing made the Mustang attractive to an extremely large audience. With sales figures reaching Ford Model A levels, the Mustang locked itself into American culture for decades to come. The Mustang to have in 1966 was the GT Model, with a 289 V8 engine, enhanced visuals, and upgraded interior. This particular Sauterne Gold 1966 example features the desirable GT package with numerous other options checked. Some of those options included the Luxury Package, Automatic Transmission, Performance Image option, Power Disc Brakes, Power Steering, A/C, 8-Track Stereo, and more. Heavily optioned 1966 Mustangs like these are hard to find, and become significantly more difficult to locate when they are unrestored and correct factory GT's.  

This 1966 GT was sold new in Atlanta, GA and remained under the original family's custody until 2020. In 2000, the family moved from Georgia to Rhode Island and brought the Mustang with them. Other than a repaint early in its life, the Mustang is largely original and has never been restored. While in Rhode Island for 20 years, the car remained in the owners garage and never saw the light of day. This survivor was then unearthed in 2020 and subsequently featured in a Barn Finds Article: https://barnfinds.com/original-a-code-1966-ford-mustang-gt-1/. After the current owner purchased the car in 2021, he brought the GT back to drivable condition and replaced the original carpeting. When removing the carpet, he found a few items including part of the original options sheet and a handful of golf tees, painting a fun picture that the original owner used the Mustang as his golfing pony. This 1966 Mustang is truly a special survivor with a great story to boot.
